Dr. Josh Karr honored as the 2024 College Level Mathematics Teacher of the Year

The West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (WVCTM) held its annual conference at Stonewall Resort on March 15-16. Our very own Dr. Josh Karr was honored as the 2024 College Level Mathematics Teacher of the Year.

Josh began his career teaching high school math. Since moving into higher education, he has taught math content courses as well as teacher education courses. He received his PhD in Educational Theory and Practice from WVU in 2022 and joined the School of Mathematical and Data Sciences in the fall of 2023. He is the co-investigator on an NSF grant proposal aimed at decreasing math anxiety in students. He has been assisting in redesigning developmental math courses.

According to one colleague, Josh’s “courses are well organized and thoughtful. The classroom spaces he creates are dynamic and inclusive. He teaches mathematics in a way that values students, sees them as capable and supports them to be successful.” His supervisor states that his “student centered approach to teaching is infectious and has been a positive influence on our faculty and students.”
