The actuarial program at WVU provided a direction for me as a young undergraduate in choosing a career path. Dr. Yang and the other students involved in the club and classes provided me much insight on the actuarial career field and how it is an extremely viable direction to take for a mathematics student. After taking some of the classes, I was able to effectively prepare for and pass two actuarial exams before graduation with an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
In reflection of my time at WVU, the courses and support offered by Dr. Yang helped me immensely to pass two actuarial exams which is a great step in my professional career before even exiting college. I am now going on to graduate school to study data analytics and continue to pursue a career as an actuary.
I would recommend any mathematics or finance driven student to
consider taking Dr. Yang's courses while in school because they ultimately
helped me to decide that this path was right for me. Though concepts and
problems may seem impossible at first, time and commitments along with the
support of Dr. Yang and your peers will help you to succeed. I have had no
happier feeling from academic accomplishment as that which I had upon passing
my first exam. It truly is a rewarding experience and great way to
jumpstart your professional career.
